I'm pretty sure I'd need to kick my whole level of cooking/baking up a few notches before I could even begin, however.

I did request that book from the library, however, for inspiration, so I'm glad that you know own it, cause, um...I tend to get a little possessive about library books. There are SEVERAL books that live on my shelves much more than they live at the library--when I HAVE to return it, I'll request it on another person's card before it goes back so that I can go and collect it again the next day.

That's not really very socially conscious, I suppose...juliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18141123092139829629noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20158627.post-29726384086809706182009-02-28T08:31:00.000-05:002009-02-28T08:31:00.000-05:00teresa, the bread journal is not a sign of being o...teresa, the bread journal is not a sign of being organized! i really needed to write stuff down, or i'd just get to scattered and confused.

sarah, i have not made butter...yet! i really want to, since we can get fresh cream from our raw milk supplier...

i did decide to let my starter go, and right now i have some cibatta loves proofing, getting ready to bake! no started required, half white flour, half whole wheat. can't wait to see how they turn out!cakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18022650911172987454noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20158627.post-67513927019233842762009-02-27T18:30:00.000-05:002009-02-27T18:30:00.000-05:00Have you succumbed to making your own butter yet? ...Have you succumbed to making your own butter yet? I hope to slowly convert it to whole wheat after it gets going.Stephhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05753205572837649406noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20158627.post-71167380610278727182009-02-26T14:51:00.000-05:002009-02-26T14:51:00.000-05:00You are so organized...a bread journal (not even i...You are so organized...a bread journal (not even in my dreams would that happen to me)?!

As my older son loves sourdough bread, I also experimented with starters. Since I didn't take notes, I can't say exactly what transpired, but I do remember the starter going bad at some point, and it really didn't work very well. Partly it's because you're supposed to, when first getting the starter going, throw out half/part of it each time. It makes me ill to throw out perfectly good organic flour.

I saw the no knead artisan bread recipe in a recent issue of Mother Earth News and have been doing that ever since; it's easy, makes a slightly sour dough, and there's no throwing out of anything involved.

Sorry for rambling...I love your bread photos, BTW!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
