questions and answers

question:
how do you keep snow from getting inside your little kid's boots, which makes his ankles cold and makes him wanna go inside way before he's had enough fun in the snow?

answer:
you take the sleeves of one of those old wool sweaters you've already cut up because you've been making muffs out of them (among other things), and you put those sweater sleeves over your little kid's snow-pants, and cover completely that place where boot and snow-pant-leg meet. it works.

then your little kid can do a lot more of this:

How's that for a "Use It!"?! Very MacGyver of you!

Cosmo looks like he is having a blast. Oh do I wish there were hills in Chicago.

the reason i posted that link is because i heard that she did the same thing as you, using the arms of her shirts.. and, man, those things sell for alot of money!

you ddint even know it - and you beat the system, cake!

thanks bethany. when i first heard about baby legs, i though they were a great idea. i couldn't afford them, but when he was a small toddler, cosmo wore some sort of tight fitting leg warmers/footless socks that i had in my sock drawer, and they worked just fine.

mep, coming from the flat land of houston TX, we sure do appreciate the hills around here too! full disclosure, in that photo, the hill looks a lot steeper than it actually is. trick photography?

when i was little, i always had plastic grocery bags in my boots. this made them easier to slip on and off, and i think it was a water-proofing technique, as well. not as warm as sweater material, but perhaps more . . . plasticky?

Totally brilliant!!

LOL @ MEP's comment. I'm thinking that to be totally MacGuyer, don't you also need to use duct tape somewhere? ;D

:-) I do that too, with my homemade babylegs.

I need to make him an arm pair, with a thumbhole, to keep his wrists covered.

Isobel *hated* being out in the snow yesterday because it was too deep...I guess when you're only 3 feet tall 12" of snow can be a real bummer...

chuck, that is a good idea, but it doesn't really address the issue of the place where boot meets pant, that is where the snow is getting in.

sarah, i thought the same thing about making some for the arms, but had not thought about the thumb hole. it is exactly the same problem, the jacket separates from the mitten, and there is this gap, where snow gets in. he comes in from being outside, and his little wrists are all red and cold!. maybe duct tape is just the thing we need here!
